Special Saint Louis Climate Summit Edition
Growing Up with the River: Nine Generations on the Missouri
This award-winning book for families to share tells the story of cultural and environmental change along the last 100 miles of the Missouri River through the eyes of nine generations of children. Spanning more than 200 years from the return of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, the children observe disruptions and changes in the landscape and wildlife habitat, caused by one generation and addressed by another.
In honor of the Saint Louis Climate Summit, we are publishing a special edition of this children’s book, with 100% of the proceeds going to the Center for Environmental Sciences at Saint Louis University to support the summit. Missouri artist Bryan Haynes has created a new cover illustrating the march of history with the dark skies of climate change on the horizon. Our Co-Chairs of the Saint Louis Climate Summit, Dr. Peter Raven and Dr. Jack Fishman, have both written original essays speaking to the threats posed by climate change to the Missouri River valley and the world.
In April 2018, experts from around the world will meet in St. Louis to focus on an issue of global significance and this book can help to inform educators and civic leaders throughout the area. As we all know, our children and grandchildren will be asked to deal with the impact of climate change on our planet. Through the efforts and results-oriented recommendations of the Saint Louis Climate Summit, they may be better prepared.
